主体段1:讨论观点1。

Some believe that children’s formal education should commence as early as possible. Children who learn a second language from a very early age, say 2 or 3, are much more capable of acquiring a native speaker accent and proficiency level than those who start later. This is because of the way that children’s brains develop. Toddlers are much more capable of being moulded in many different ways compared to older children. Very strong language skills are very valuable in the job market and so training children in foreign languages at a very early age will give them a competitive edge.

有人认为孩子接受的正式教育应该尽早开始。很小就开始学习外语的孩子,比如两三岁的,远比后来学外语的孩子能更好地学会道地的发音和获得熟练度。这是孩子大脑发育的方式决定的。襁褓中的孩子在很多方面,比年纪更大的孩子,更容易被塑造。强大的语言能力在职场意义重大,所以在孩子很小的时候培养外语会给他们优势。

On the other hand, others argue that we should not place so much importance on academic achievement until children reach the age of 7. They contend that the earliest years of our lives should be dedicated to play, for example with toys, games and other children, and perhaps more significantly, developing close relationships with parents and other family members and friends. The consequence of this focus is that they are more likely to develop normally from the emotional and psychological perspectives. In turn, this will give them a better opportunity to form satisfying relationships when they are adults and make wise choices about their studies and careers. 

另一方面,其他人认为我们在孩子7岁之前不应该这么强调学术成果。他们认为人生最初的几年应该用来玩耍,比如玩玩具,做游戏,和其他孩子一起玩。也许更重要的是,和父母、其他家庭成员以及朋友建立密切的关系。这样做的结果是,这些孩子在情感和心理上,更有可能正常地发展。他们得到的回报是,在成年以后更有机会建立满意的人际关系,在学习领域和职业方面做出更明智的选择。

In contrast, there are many examples of able children who have been forced into studying earlier than they would have preferred. Such children all too often grow up with a resentment towards study and towards those with authority over them.
